The Detecto 8430 Column Scale features a heavy-duty understructure with a fabricated lever system enhanced by precision-ground, pressed-in knife edges. The included height rod measures 30 - 78 inches (76 cm - 200 cm) and is graduated in both inches and centimeters. At-a-glance convenience is available due to its battery-powered LCD display.

The Detecto 8430 display allows for BMI tracking with an 11-digit patient ID entry thus weight, height, and BMI percentage may be calculated simultaneously. Other features include selectable units, push button and keypad tare, body mass index, and automatic display lock. The weight capacity is 400 lbs with a 0.2 lb graduation (180 kg with a 0.1 kg graduation). The Detecto 8430 is powered by 6 C size alkaline batteries (included).
